Questions homeowners ask

Painting FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most — about licensing, timelines, occupied spaces, pricing, paint selection, and how professional painting actually works in New Jersey.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Gen Z Painting is a licensed and insured commercial and residential painting contractor. We provide certificates of insurance (COIs) to general contractors, property managers, and homeowners on every project.

How long will my project take?

A single room can be done in a day. A full interior repaint runs 3–7 working days depending on size and surface condition. Exteriors run 3–10 days depending on the building and the weather. We give you a clear timeline up front and hit it.

Do I need to close my business or empty the space?

No. We specialize in occupied-space painting: HEPA dust control, plastic containment, floor protection, and low-odor products keep your home, office, or store operating while we work.

What affects the cost of a painting project?

Surface area, surface condition, prep required, the coating system selected, number of coats, and access. We give you a detailed written estimate within 48 hours so you know exactly what the project costs — no surprises.

How do I get an estimate?

Submit an RFP or call (732) 454-6115. We walk the space, document the surfaces, and return a detailed itemized estimate within 48 hours.

Do you help with color and product selection?

Yes. We help you choose the right color, finish, and coating system for each surface — matched to how the space is used and how it needs to hold up.

What warranty do you offer?

Every project carries a workmanship warranty against peeling, flaking, and blistering. If something fails because of the work, we come back and make it right.

What paint brands do you use?

We work with Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore — premium products selected for the surface and the environment. You pick the grade and sheen that fits your project.

How long does paint last?

Interior walls: 7–10 years in most living areas, 4–5 years in high-traffic zones. Exteriors: 5–8 years with quality products and proper prep. Bathrooms and basements depend on products and humidity.

Do you paint commercial and residential?

Both. We handle commercial, government, industrial, and retail work — plus residential interiors, exteriors, cabinets, and decks. The same prep and finish standard applies on every project.

Can you match my existing color?

Yes. We can color-match existing finishes and work from samples, swatches, or photos to get the color right before we start.

Do you move furniture and protect floors?

Yes. We move standard furniture away from walls, cover floors, furniture, and fixtures, and clean up thoroughly at the end of every day.

What areas do you serve?

New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, and Maryland — residential and commercial.

When is the best time to paint my exterior?

Late spring through early fall — warm, dry weather with enough daylight. We schedule around the forecast so the finish cures properly.

How do I prepare for a painting project?

We tell you exactly what to clear before we arrive. Remove fragile or valuable items, clear shelves near painted areas, and have a plan for large furniture. We handle the rest.
