Meet Jason Nugent, Founder of Gen Z Painting
From the field to the finish line. Jason Nugent played football at Rutgers University and played it professionally. The game gave him a lot of memories. It also gave him something more useful for a painting business: a standard.
Football is the sport where preparation decides everything. The team that practices the same way it plays wins. The team that skips the details loses. Jason runs Gen Z Painting the same way he ran onto the field: ready, on time, and unwilling to accept a sloppy job when a clean one was possible.
The game taught him the work

People hear former athlete and think discipline. That is true, but it is deeper than that.
Preparation is the job. In football, the game is won before kickoff. In painting, the job is won before the first coat. Prep work, protection, masking, the work nobody sees, that is where Jason’s crews earn their pay.
Team over ego. A football team has one goal and eleven jobs. A painting crew is the same: one finished building, and every person accountable for their part. Jason does not hire guys to fill hours. He builds crews that check each other’s work.
Finish strong. The fourth quarter is where games are decided. The last room, the final touch-up, the punch list, that is where most contractors drop the ball. Jason treats the end of every project like the end of a close game: you do not coast, you close.
Accountability. Coaches do not accept excuses. Neither do building owners. If something is not right, Jason hears about it and fixes it. That is the job.

The Rutgers degree
Jason graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Labor Relations and Business Management. That is not a degree about theory. It is a degree about people: how to build a workforce, how to manage it fairly, how to run the numbers behind it, and how to keep a crew accountable without burning it out.
It is also exactly the degree a painting contractor should have. Every project is a labor operation: schedules, hours, crews, payroll, safety, and the logistics of getting the right people to the right site. Jason runs Gen Z Painting like the business it is, because he studied how businesses actually work.
And it lets him talk to general contractors in their language. He reads contracts, manages schedules, tracks costs, and understands the labor side of a project the way a project manager does, because he learned it from the people who do that job.
What that means for your project
When you hire Gen Z Painting, you are not hiring a crew. You are hiring a standard.
For general contractors: a sub who shows up, reads the drawings, protects the site, and finishes on the schedule he promised. No surprises, no babysitting.
For property managers: a contractor who treats your building like the asset it is, with occupied-space protection, dust control, and clean work that does not shut you down.
For facility owners: a partner who documents the work, keeps the site safe, and hands you a finish that holds up.
The bottom line
Jason Nugent spent years learning how to compete at the highest level. Now he competes on your job site. The field changed. The standard did not.
